“Difficulties mastered are opportunities won.” Winston Churchill
Dear Fellow Whiffers,
As you undoubtedly know, on Valentine’s Day, much of the Badminton and Racquet Club was destroyed by a massive fire, in which thankfully there were no serious injuries. The club facilities will be unavailable for what will probably be an extended period. Our sincere sympathies to the injured firefighter, the B&R Members and Staff.
Your Junta met on Wednesday, February 15 and activated its business continuity plan to ensure that we move forward without interruption in our 2016-2017 campaign. You will be pleased to know that in response to our request for accommodation, the Royal Canadian Yacht Club (RCYC) immediately extended a generous offer of assistance to enable us to fulfill our commitments for February and subsequent months. We would also like to very much thank those Whiffers who reached out to their own clubs for possible accommodation of the Whiff.
We are, of course, delighted to inform you of this swift solution and implore all of you to help the Whiff demonstrate an equal measure of appreciation by having as many of you and your guests join us at the RCYC City Clubhouse on February 28 as possible. Our speaker will be Dr. Suzanne L. Stewart, Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair in Aboriginal Homelessness and Life Transitions, University of Toronto. Her topic is “Indigenous Reconciliation in Canada” will give us an insider’s view of the issues.
To express the Whiff’s support and solidarity, your Junta has also invited, as special guests for the evening, the Toronto Fire Chief, Matthew Pegg, David Brightling, GM and CEO of the RCYC, Derek Fisher, Commodore of the RCYC and Paul Cadieux, the COO of the B&R.
On February 28th, let us all show what an incredible and united TEAM the Whiff of Grape of Toronto is! RSVP soon. See you all there!
Your Junta,
P.S. The RCYC City Clubhouse is very well situated, with next door St. George subway station and nearby parking.
